wmtc endorses redneck mommy for best canadian blog
As I mentioned, we move to canada is a finalist for Best Canadian Blog in the 2008 Weblog Awards. It's very flattering to be included in any best-of poll, but that's as far as I'll go with this one.
In my estimation, of the blogs on this short list of Canadian blogs, the best is Attack of the Redneck Mommy. On her beautifully designed blog, Tanis Miller writes with wit and eloquence about love, loss, family, and everything else that comprise our lives. She's very good, and of the choices, I'd most want her to represent Canada.
There are also several blogs on that list that I don't want to represent Canada, if you get my drift. Several progressive bloggers are teaming up - forming a coalition, if you will - to endorse Redneck Mommy. One progressive blogger who declined to participate said, among other things, that we are fostering right-wing style competitiveness. I'm hard pressed to see how bowing out of a race and asking readers to vote for someone else fosters competitiveness. But each to her own.
I'm voting for Redneck Mommy, and I hope you will, too. Put it this way: if you would have voted for wmtc, please vote for Attack of the Redneck Mommy instead. Please visit her blog for voting links.

Re the blogger who declined to participate, you can read his full reasons here.
Sigh. Is there nothing people can't find a way to be nasty about? Apparently not.
Not CI-level insane, but still ...
My other endorsements:
Jon Swift for best humour blog
xkcd for best comic, although I'm a poor judge, as I dislike most comics
The Diary of Samuel Pepys for best literary blog
Best liberal blog is impossible for me to choose, and it seems unfair to have Think Progress, TruthDig, Crooks and Liars and Glenn Greenwald on that list. They're some of the most excellent sites on the internet, but they're not blogs. They have access to resources that most bloggers do not.
Of the rest, I'd probably go with Sadly, No!, Brad Blog or Orcinus. Still a toss-up.
There are no words adequate to express my gratitude and thanks for all the support you have shown me.
But I have to tell you, being the only non-political blog in the category is FREAKING me out.
I don't feel like I'm smart enough to be up against all of y'all.
Wink.
Laura. You're the last person I would have thought would endorse anything "Redneck" ;-)

Ha! Just this morning I had to tell someone you're not really a redneck, but a pinko commie bleeding heart like the rest of us. ;)
But seriously, it is more than a bit strange that almost all the blogs in the Best Canadian category are political! I don't get it.
Anyway, good luck. Whatever the outcome, your blog rocks.

Yes, exactly! :)
Titles can be deceptive, even purposely so.
"But seriously, it is more than a bit strange that almost all the blogs in the Best Canadian category are political! I don't get it."
Seriously! I saw the category, and was all excited about maybe finding some new Canuck blogs to read, and I was really confused to see them all be political (and not on my political side, to boot). WTF.
(and not on my political side, to boot)
They're about half progressive and half conservative/neo-con. Perhaps you are in the middle. :)

But very, very nasty. It's gone on quite a bit.
L-girl: seriously? Asking someone to bow out of the Weblog Awards? Would you ask another film to bow out of the race for Best Picture at the Oscars?
This is ridiculous and petty. I really don't give a flying you-know-what whether YOU feel a blog should be representative of Canada. Asking someone to stop down and then being offended by their refusal is ridiculous -- more so considering what the award is really worth.
Grow up a little, will you? I like Redneck Mommy. I read Redneck Mommy. I have friends who know Redneck Mommy. But I'm voting for Buckdog entirely because of your little tantrum.
L-girl: seriously? Asking someone to bow out of the Weblog Awards?
No, not seriously, because I never asked such a thing. I suggested that we all get together and ask our readers to endorse one blog. That is all I asked.
If that seems inappropriate to you, that's no problem. But please don't come to my blog accusing me of something I didn't do.
This is ridiculous and petty.
I posted about this once, almost a week ago, and haven't mentioned it since. You come over here having a fit, and I'm being ridiculous and petty?
Grow up a little, will you?
Very nice. Very mature and appropriate.
But I'm voting for Buckdog entirely because of your little tantrum.
You'll find no evidence of a tantrum on this blog, or in my posts on anyone else's blog. I can't imagine what makes you think I had a tantrum, but please take your own rantings elsewhere. Thank you.
Deron: A word of advice, if I may.
Before speaking in an authoritative manner about a subject, most intelligent adults will familiarize themselves with said topic (at least a little), rather than offering some ignorant spew about it.
You might want to try that method in the future. It'll save you a fair amount of ridicule and embarrassment.
